Pass plus +
Comprising six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. You can take it at any time in your driving career, but it is mainly aimed at new drivers in their first year of passing their test.
There is no test at the end of it - your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to achieve or exceed the standard.
To help you get through the pass plus + assessments, Safer Roads for Cumbria will provide you with a 60 pound voucher towards the cost of the course. To qualify for this you have to apply within 12 months of passing your test, be aged between 17 and 20 and agree to attend a Road Awareness Training session run by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
With pass plus + you will:
gain valuable driving experience safely
you will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, some of which you may not have faced before
build on your existing skills and knowledge - it can take years to become a skilled driver. Pass plus + helps get you there by speeding up the learning process under expert tuition
reduce your risk of being in a road crash. The course will help your awareness of all kinds of hazards and help you learn how to anticipate, plan for and deal with them safely
Boost confidence - if you feel nervous driving on your own, pass plus + training can help.
Many Insurance Companies offer substantial discounts to new drivers who have successfully completed a pass plus + course. A full list of insurance companies that offer discounts to young drivers who achieve pass plus + within the first year of passing their test is available on Safer Roads for Cumbria web site.
