“Trainee Licence” Once you have passed Part two and have received the minimum of 40 hours training you may apply for your Trainee Licence. Then after another 20 hours training you are allowed to teach pupils for money. This of course means that much of the rest of the course can be funded from your own pupils.
The Trainee Licence is valid for six months only so what we would do would be to incorporate some or all of the required 20 hours training into your programme before you take you Part 2 exam. This means that you could have the full six months of you Trainee Licence getting practical experience at teaching whilst getting paid.
The Trainee Licence costs 50% of the cost of the four year full licence, which is currently £300 so the trainee licence would be £150. But when you passed you Part 3 you only pay the remaining 50% of the full fee. (Or £150).
Part 3. This is the part most trainees fear. Because parts 1 & 2 are driving orientated and you will have had experiences before training. Part 3 however is about your “Ability to Instruct” and unless you have come from a teaching background, will be beyond your experience. This is why you MUST have the minimum hours of training because it not only teaches YOU how to do it, but show you how to teach others. This is achieved by “roll play” where the instructor becomes the pupil and you must teach them to drive. You will learn how to make use of the dual controls, because the instructor will deliberately make mistakes so you will learn how to:- a) anticipate a problem and b) rectify it before it becomes an accident.
The cost of the Part 3 test is currently £99 and is payable by yourself.
When you pass the Part 3 test you will become a fully qualified ADI (Approved Driving Instructor).
All in-car training on a one-to-one basis will be charged at £30 per hour for all of the Part 3 training.
