Part 1: A.D.I. Theory Test. This test is similar to the test taken by all learner drivers, a multiple choice question section and a hazard perception test. It is much more comprehensive with a much higher pass mark requirement. It will last for 90 minutes and there will be 100 questions. The questions themselves will be split into four bands
which are:-
Road procedure.
Traffic signs and signals, car control, pedestrians, mechanical knowledge.
Driving test, disabilities, law.
Publications, instructional techniques.

If you have less than 80% passes in any of the above, YOU WILL FAIL.

You will also on the same date have to sit the hazard perception test, again it’s similar to the learner drivers test, but again more comprehensive with a higher pass mark requirement. There are 14 video clips with 15 scoring hazards and you can obtain 5 points per hazard making a maximum of 75 points. If you score less than 57 YOU WILL FAIL. There is no limit to the number of tests that you may take.

This part is basically self study but at any time you can call us for advice or any help you may need. Your cost for this element would be £200 and includes all of the reference books that you will need and as much practical coaching as you require. So that we are able to monitor your progress and readiness for the test we will set you about 10 tests for you to complete, during this part of the course. There is no pressure from us to complete any section of the training for you to become an A.D.I. If you are in full time employment you can complete the training outside of your working hours and take as long as you wish before you take your Part one exam. This can be taken locally in Workington, or at least it can at the moment, there are many changes in the pipeline and many of them have not yet been made public.

One thing you must bear in mind is that once you sit and pass your Part 1, you then have only two years to pass your Part 2 and Part 3. If that two year period expires before you pass Part 3 you will have to restart the whole cycle of Parts 1,2 & 3. At both the Part 2 and Part 3 tests you are only allowed three attempts. After the third fail you must restart the program from Part 1. The current cost for the test is £80 and is not included in the cost of the course.
